Handsome Man

Oh my, where do I begin?

My grandfather was the most gregarious, obstinate, loquacious influence of my life. My inspiration of all things grammatical, and the quintessential storyteller. Builder of cabins, confidence and elementary school dioramas. CBC broadcaster, curler and most interesting, considerate roommate of all time. My heart is truly, thoroughly broken.

This birthday will truly be one to remember, just as Leo will forever be one to celebrate.

The Voice

A couple of years ago my grandfather told me a story about a day when he came home from work to find me, at four years old, reading a TIME Magazine article. He continued, "You didn't frighten the life out of me, you DELIGHTED the life out of me."

One time I told him I like football (i.e. soccer) more than baseball and he called me an atheist. I think I cry uncontrollably every time I watch Big Fish because Ed Bloom reminds me so much of Pop.

Back in 2012, after a scare when he ended up in hospital, I wrote "My grandfather had another rant about the difference between 'thee' and 'thuh' in speech last night and it is obvious where I got my particularity from. He is the reason I pronounce the 'r' in February and why I laugh when people say 'Sin Jawns'. He is often a cranky man but I fuckin' love him."

It's true; your granddaughter fuckin' loves you.
