Frankfurt and Beginnings

I've been traveling for about a week and a half now and am loving every minute of it. Germany and France have been unseasonably warm and I've eaten enough chocolate and cheese to last any sane person a lifetime. I am exhausted but feeling very grateful for this opportunity; I've already met some amazing people and gotten lost in beautiful places. It is overwhelming at times but also very fulfilling.

My first couple of nights were spent in Frankfurt, Germany. I taught myself a few phrases to get by in my brief time there, the most important of which turned out to be "Ein Apfelwein bitte". I toured some of the city by foot, stopping for a while on the Eiserner Steg, a pedestrian footbridge across the Main River. Many lovers will engrave their names on a padlock, attaching it to the bridge and throwing away the key to demonstrate their eternal affection. It is a fun trend popping up all around the world and makes for a colourful photo...

Eventually I met up with the rest of the group and bussed to Strasbourg to get settled in our new digs. The chateau is eerie and majestic and the perfect place to call home for the next few months. It is great to be able to practice French again and to be consistently out of my comfort zone. On our most recent day-trip I even tried octopus, which admittedly I may not eat again, but am using as motivation to continue to be open in my adventures. There is a lot of world out there to explore and I intend to make the best of it!

Part of our curriculum includes writing regular blog entries, so I expect to be updating more frequently. I certainly have a lot more to share, but finding the time when excitement abounds may be challenging. Thanks for coming along for the ride!
