Schooled on Strasbourg

Over the holidays at home I've gotten a few questions about my upcoming term in France. While I don't have nearly the knowledge I will in just a few weeks, I thought it would be nice to do a quick post about the area I'll be staying in before inundating my blog with photos of timber-framed houses and pretty bridges.

Strasbourg is located in the Alsace region of eastern France, close to its border with Germany. It is situated on the Rhine, a river that begins in the Swiss Alps and flows through Germany and the Netherlands up into the North Sea. I've given this explanation in case you, nonexistent reader, are unsure of your geography, but if your brain works anything like mine (poorly) the explanation was likely useless. You require a visual aid! So here is a stimulating screen-cap"

Thanks, Google Maps!

Strasbourg's historic centre, an area known as Grand Île, is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site and holds a cathedral that Wikipedia tells me is the tallest 15th century structure in the world. I'm inclined to believe it, in part because I don't know where to purchase a 470ft tape measure for confirmation.

The city is the official seat of the European Parliament and is home to at least ten museums/galleries that, let's be real, I probably won't visit since I'll be too busy consuming local cheese and wine (for my education). I'm told that there is also a great tattoo shop that can help me with one of the items on my Bucket List...

So this is where I'll be living (in a château!), finishing up my last few months of classes before moving on to an internship and the completion of my program. Being a vagrant has its charm!
